all the time that i was riding my wave so high
you were hiding, you were hurting and barely alive
i still don't know how you managed to make it through
and still you give everything when i need you to
when we were kids we dreamed of all the things we'd do
in that dead town where the hills seemed so far and blue

now we are men
now we feel old
and all our dreams
they have grown cold
life took it's toll and left us alone
but i can't complain
i've had my fill
and all the time you were so ill
i was so full of everything me
i now see

but now it's time to let go of the pain inside
you see there is always hope on the living side
no one can tell what the future will send our way
but i'm still sure there is worth in this slow decay

and to this end, what will we bring
there's so much wrong and good i've seen
where will we stand when everything's gone
will we be free, will we know peace
will we find home and finally rest
could there have been another way to play
